Free Interview Guidance Program 2020 – Session by Vinay Sir on 24th Feb 2021



We hope those of you who have written the UPSC CSE Mains 2020 exam have given your best. You have one last hurdle to cross to finally see your name in the Final List. This last hurdle is the best phase of this examination where you can finally put your personality – the one that has transformed into a better and mature one, thanks to the grueling exam process – to test. And this final test, if faced confidently keeping in mind certain fundamentals, will ensure that you will graduate from an ‘ordinary’ person into a civil servant. Those 20 to 40 minutes of interview or personality test can save many years of your youthful life. Those minutes can bring you 30-40 years of prosperity to your family and to the nation. This final phase, if you are going to face it, is profoundly important and deserves your utmost dedication to face it confidently and to walk out with 70+ percent marks.

Those who are going to face UPSC civil services personality test  must compulsorily read and internalize  the instruction/directive given by UPSC itself in its annual exam notification about the Interview Stage:

  • The candidate will be interviewed by a Board who will have before them a record of his/her career. He/she will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only his/her intellectual qualities but also social traits and his/her interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, a balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.
  • The technique of the interview is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate.
  • The interview test is not intended to be a test either of the specialized or general knowledge of the candidates which has been already tested through their written papers. Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own state or country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should arouse the curiosity of well-educated youth.

You must carefully observe the highlighted words in the above paragraphs. You must then ask yourself if you possess these qualities. And then you must ask yourself another question – do you have time and patience to inculcate these qualities within a short span of time – in case you don’t possess them?

If you already have these qualities (or the expectations of the interview board), you must not fear this experience. At the same time you must not be overconfident about this.

There is a wrong notion that one must present their raw self to the board without getting trained. Though it is true that one must present themselves as honestly as possible, it’s always not in one’s interest to face such a crucial moment without adequate preparation so as to present themselves as someone who meets standards expected by the interview board.

To succeed in this stage all it takes is your willingness to put your personality to test multiple times in a non-hostile environment and learn your shortcomings and strengths from people who have extensive experience in this regard. To reach a standard where your score should not be less than 190, you need to really work hard. In our opinion, one must put more efforts for the interview stage than what they had put for either for prelims or mains. In this stage one has a final chance to get into these coveted services – if one has qualified for this stage – irrespective of their Mains marks.

Orientation Session for Interview Guidance program is scheduled for 24th Feb 2021. The Session will be taken by Vinay Sir. The Session will be Offline[Bangalore] as well as Online (LIVE). The orientation session will give the candidates the idea about filling up the detailed application form (DAF-II) followed by a brief introduction about trends of various services.

Students who have written CSE MAINS 2020 and are satisfied with their performance are advised to start their preparation for the interview immediately.
