  1. PM to visit Palestine next month, the first ever by an Indian Prime Minister; UAE and Oman also included in the itinerary.

Prime Minister will visit Palestine, UAE and Oman from the 9th to the 12th of next month. It will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Palestine.

Significance:

  • The visit to Palestine assumes significance as India was one of the first countries to recognise the State of Palestine in 1988.
  • In the context of its relationship with Israel, this visit of the Prime Minister to Palestine is indicative of the balanced foreign policy approach which India follows in its international relations.
  • Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Oman.
  • In UAE, besides meeting the top leadership, Prime Minister would be addressing the Sixth World Government Summit being held in Dubai at which the India is the ‘Guest of Honour’. 141 countries are expected to participate in the Summit.

Pulse Polio drops administered to children below five years of age on National Immunisation Day. 

  • President launched the countrywide pulse polio programme for the year by administering polio drops to a child at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.  
  • The programme will cover around 17 crore children to maintain the country’s polio-free status.
  • India eradicated wild polio virus in 2011 and since then no polio virus has been detected.  
  • In order to mitigate the risk of polio-virus from neighbouring countries, the immunity against polio infection is maintained through National and Sub-National Polio rounds along with sustained high quality polio surveillance.
  • The Centre has introduced the injectable Inactivated Polio Vaccine into its routine immunization programme to provide additional protection to the children.
  • Strengthening of immunization programme has certainly contributed to the decline of infant mortality rate.

  • Country’s woman power has contributed a lot in the positive transformation being witnessed in our country and society.
  • Woman power is playing a pioneering role and establishing milestones and there are no upper limits for Nari Shakti. Women in India are taking rapid strides in all fields bringing glory to the Nation.           
  • A daughter is equivalent to ten sons and woman power binds closely together society as a whole on the axis of unity and oneness.
  • Matunga station in Mumbai is the first station in the country which is run by all woman staff.
  • Adivasi women, of Maoist infested Dantewada in Chattisgarh, are becoming self-reliant by driving e-rickshaws.
  • Medicines being available at over three thousand Jan Aushadhi Centres are fifty per cent to ninety per cent cheaper than branded drugs available in the market which has made healthcare affordable and encouraged Ease of Living.
  • PM lauded the effort of the Bihar government for forming world’s longest human chain spanning over thirteen thousand kilometres to uproot social ills in the state.
  • He appealed to the countrymen to pledge together to wipe out evil customs from our social fabric.

People with autism, mental illnesses, intellectual disability and victims of acid attacks will now get quota in central government jobs.

  • The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) recently wrote to all central government departments to ensure that one per cent of each posts be reserved for people with blindness and low vision; deaf and hearing impaired; locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, dwarfism etc.
  • DoPT said in case of direct recruitment, four per cent of the total number of vacancies, up from the existing three per cent, in groups A, B and C shall be reserved for people with benchmark disabilities. 

 

  1. Union Home Ministry is planning to set up an apex coordination centre to deal with cyber crimes

Union Home Ministry is planning to set up an apex coordination centre to deal with cyber-crimes such as financial frauds, circulation of communal and pornographic contents.

  • The ministry has also asked states to establish a similar mechanism in every district.  
  • Home Ministry will set up of a cyber-forensic training laboratory-cum-training centre for police officials in each state.
  • The ministry would coordinate with state governments and union territories, and closely monitor the cyber space and social media with due emphasis on vernacular content

In Rajasthan, the Lok Sabha seats of Ajmer and Alwar, and the Assembly seat of Mandalgarh will go to bye-poll tomorrow.

In a first, EVM machines with photos of candidates on them would be used for polling, which would take place from 8 am to 6pm.
