- PM to visit Palestine next month, the first ever by an Indian Prime Minister; UAE and Oman also included in the itinerary.
Prime Minister will visit Palestine, UAE and Oman from the 9th to the 12th of next month. It will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Palestine.
Significance:
- The visit to Palestine assumes significance as India was one of the first countries to recognise the State of Palestine in 1988.
- In the context of its relationship with Israel, this visit of the Prime Minister to Palestine is indicative of the balanced foreign policy approach which India follows in its international relations.
- Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Oman.
- In UAE, besides meeting the top leadership, Prime Minister would be addressing the Sixth World Government Summit being held in Dubai at which the India is the ‘Guest of Honour’. 141 countries are expected to participate in the Summit.

Pulse Polio drops administered to children below five years of age on National Immunisation Day.
- President launched the countrywide pulse polio programme for the year by administering polio drops to a child at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- The programme will cover around 17 crore children to maintain the country’s polio-free status.
- India eradicated wild polio virus in 2011 and since then no polio virus has been detected.
- In order to mitigate the risk of polio-virus from neighbouring countries, the immunity against polio infection is maintained through National and Sub-National Polio rounds along with sustained high quality polio surveillance.
- The Centre has introduced the injectable Inactivated Polio Vaccine into its routine immunization programme to provide additional protection to the children.
- Strengthening of immunization programme has certainly contributed to the decline of infant mortality rate.

- The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) recently wrote to all central government departments to ensure that one per cent of each posts be reserved for people with blindness and low vision; deaf and hearing impaired; locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, dwarfism etc.
- DoPT said in case of direct recruitment, four per cent of the total number of vacancies, up from the existing three per cent, in groups A, B and C shall be reserved for people with benchmark disabilities.
