  1. India and Bangladesh resolve to fight common challenge of terrorism together.

External Affairs Minister discussed the situation arising out of the influx of Rohingyas from Rakhine State of Myanmar and need for an early and lasting solution.            

  • Discussed the common challenge of terrorism and resolved to fight the scourge together. 
  • Both countries are determined to protect their societies from hate, violence and terror by adopting a zero tolerance policy and a comprehensive approach.
  • The India Bangladesh relationship has reached a new high as both countries have been conducting this relationship in an atmosphere of mutual trust and understanding based on the principle of shared prosperity.
  • The signing of the MOU for long-term supply of high speed diesel from the Numaligarh refinery and the deal for the establishment of a Common Facility Centre for the small scale and medium industries in Khulna are further steps in enhancing the economic co-operation and development partnership between the two neighbours. 
  • External Affairs Minister opened the new chancery complex of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. She said in India’ policy of ‘Neighbours First’, it is Bangladesh which occupies the foremost position and much of the credit for the excellent bilateral relationship goes to the Prime Ministers of both countries

 

  1. ASEAN Defence Ministers’ meeting, ADMM- Plus

Defence Minister left for Philippines this morning to attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ meeting, ADMM- Plus.

  • The two day meeting is expected to discuss ways to enhance defence and security co-operation among the member nations to effectively counter various transnational security challenges, the region is facing.   
  • The ADMM-Plus is a platform for ASEAN and its eight dialogue partners to strengthen security and defence co-operation for peace, stability, and development in the region.
  • The objective of the conference is to promote mutual trust and confidence between defence establishments through greater dialogue and transparency.
  • The conference is also likely to discuss enhancing maritime security cooperation among the member countries.
  • India has deep historic and cultural linkages with ASEAN countries which have been strengthened in the recent past by vibrant economic engagement and a growing sense of shared maritime destiny. 

 

  1. The 3-day grand finale of Paryatan Parv, a nation-wide celebration of tourism

The 3-day grand finale of Paryatan Parv, a nation-wide celebration of tourism, will begin in New Delhi.

  • The 21-day Paryatan Parv was organised by the Tourism Ministry in collaboration with other Central Ministries, State Governments and other stakeholders.
  • The grand finale will comprise of cultural performances, crafts bazaar, multi-cuisine food court and other interactive activities.
  • The programme has been organized with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country and reinforcing the principle of Tourism for All. 

 

  1. ‘PG hostels for cattle’ – A new concept introduced by Haryana (White Revolution)

The Haryana government has decided to introduce a new concept for people living in high-rise buildings in urban areas but want to rear their own cattle to get quality milk.

  • The government will set up ‘PG hostels for cattle’ for those people.
  • The project will be first of its kind. The Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Minister, said that  under this ambitious project about 50 to 100 acres of land would be earmarked in a town, where  ‘PG hostels for cattle’ would be set up to provide a central place for milch cattle.
  • The government is in the process to establish dairy industry in the urban areas so as to further boost the white revolution in the state. 

 

  1. A big surge in reverse brain drain.

Reverse brain drain is a form of brain drain where human capital moves in reverse from a more developed country to a less developed country that is developing rapidly. These migrants may accumulate savings, also known as remittances, and develop skills overseas that can be used in their home country.

 

  1. CISF will analyse  Social media trends and data for the first time in monitoring security.

The Central Industrial Security Force will analyse Social media trends and data for the first time in monitoring security.

  • The data will be used to monitor the country’s most vital assets such as airports and nuclear and aerospace installations.
  • A special team of CISF personnel has been trained to track social media trends, news, reports and indicators across various platforms, collate them and utilise them as vital pieces of actionable intelligence to its various airports and other vital units.
  • He said based on the an experiences, this smart centre will be further strengthened.

 

  1. The Rajasthan Government tabled in the assembly   the  controversial Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment 2017) bill

Not only opposition but also a ruling party MLA strongly opposed the bill as the Assembly proceedings started.

  • Opposition called the bill unconstitutional and said the government is trying to impose ‘undeclared emergency’ in the state through this bill.
  • The Government through this bill is going to amend section 156 (3) and 190 (1) of CrPC. As per proposed provision, the magistrate cannot order or investigate any case against Government servants before the approval for prosecution.  

 

  1. Government has so far opened more than nine thousand Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra

Home Minister has said that government has so far opened more than nine thousand Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra to impart skill training to youth.

  • Government has earmarked 12 hundred crore rupees so that youth belonging to economically weaker section could be imparted skill training.
  • He said, government has set a target of generating one crore employment opportunities for youth by 2020.
  • Active involvement of private sector is needed to achieve this ambitious target.
  • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development to enable a large number of youth to take up industry – relevant skill training to make them employable.

 

  1. Sri Lanka Coast Guard has commissioned the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), CG 60 provided by Indian coast guard

Sri Lanka Coast Guard has commissioned the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), CG 60 provided by Indian coast guard last month as ship ‘Suraksha’.

  • This is the first OPV to be inducted by Sri Lankan coast guard and will be the largest ship in its fleet.
  • The ship was officially handed over to Sri Lankan coast guard last month and shows the growing cooperation between the two neighbours for better surveillance in Indian Ocean.
  • It is the biggest patrol vessel in Sri Lankan coast guard fleet and will be used for humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.
  • Indian navy has rendered invaluable assistance to its Sri Lankan counterpart and the latter has ordered two navy warships from India.
  • It received its largest warship built at Goa shipyard in July while another one will be delivered by February next year.
  • Both countries are working closely to safeguard free navigation in Indian Ocean region.

 

  1. The government wants to initiate a sustained dialogue to find a solution to the issue.

Government is sensitive to issues pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir.

  • Prime Minister mentioned in his Independence Day Address in which he had said that problems in the state can be solved by embracing the people and not by bullets or abuses.
  • Welcoming the Centre’s decision, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said dialogue is a necessity of the hour and the only way to go forward.

 

  1. Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS)

Context:

Cricket icon and Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendulkar has sanctioned two crore rupees from his MPLADS fund for revamp of rail foot overbridges in Mumbai. It comes in the backdrop of the Elphinstone Road station stampede which claimed over 20 lives.

  • In a letter to the Railway Minister, Tendulkar said, he is requesting the Mumbai suburban district collector to authorise the sum for construction.

 

MPLADS:

The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division is entrusted with the responsibility of implementation of Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

  • Under the scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency.
  • The Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament can recommend works in one or more districts in the State from where he/she has been elected.
  • The Nominated Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha may select any one or more Districts from any one State in the Country for implementation of their choice of work under the scheme.
