Should There Be Indefinite Moratorium On Genetically Modified Crops In India?

Recently, under pressure, the government withdrew its approval for the field trial of GM crops. This is going on for past few years. There is both opposition and support for the GM crops. On what grounds, some groups are opposing GM crop trials? Are they justified?  What is the scenario in other countries?

In 2012, the government had opposed the recommendations of the Technical Expert Committee (TEC) seeking a 10-year moratorium on field trials on Genetically Modified (GM) crops on the grounds that it would be detrimental to national interest. The question is  which national interest and how it would be affected?

What in your opinion should India do on this issue?
